Booking Through Thursday

This week’s BTT.

What’s the funniest book you’ve read recently?

Oh, dear. I think this is a great question because it made me realise how serious my reading has been lately. I’m in an existentialism phase so everything I’m reading is a little dreary. The book that remotely resembles funny would probably have to be Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford. Very dry, witty and satirical.

  1. Oh, Love in a Cold Climate is great, but it doesn’t bring the funnies like A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. I usually read on the train, and I have been tittering like a lunatic every day. Even sometimes when I’m not reading it, I laugh just thinking about it. The main character is like David Brent with a PhD, or Homer Simpson if he were a specialist in medieval history. Amazing!

  2. Dry and witty are the best kind of funny books! I’m about to start reading A Confederacy of Dunces actually, and quite looking forward to it. Beryl Bainbridge is always great for a laugh too.
